Oral Hygiene

Your best line of defense

If your goal is a healthy, beautiful smile that lasts a lifetime, our team at Brewer Family Dental can’t stress enough the importance of good oral hygiene. Food and sugar particles that are allowed to remain on teeth quickly turn into acid, which breaks down tooth enamel and causes decay. This is one of the leading causes of more serious dental problems like tooth loss and gum disease.

Not only does this have a negative impact on your oral health, but since the mouth serves at a gateway to the rest of the body, oral infections can have serious consequences for your systemic and overall health and wellness. That’s why a solid oral home care routine (regular brushing and flossing), and visits to Brewer Family Dental for your regular cleanings and exams are so important.

A Winning Team

Dr. Brewer, your trusted Lexington dentist, has carefully hand-selected each of his team members with the goal of upholding his commitment to quality dentistry and compassionate care. Our hygiene team boasts an impressive resume with many years of combined experience providing patients with thorough, yet gentle cleanings that are sure to have you leaving with a sparkling smile every time.

While brushing and flossing at home is a great start on the path toward oral health, there are tools, skills, and expertise that we have here in our office that are simply out of reach for patients at home. That’s why it’s important to schedule a regular cleaning and checkup appointment with Dr. Brewer every six months.

Home Care

We hate to sound like a broken record, but we can’t stress enough the importance of regular brushing and flossing. This is truly the best thing you can do to prevent tooth decay and further oral and overall health problems down the road. Brushing your teeth once after breakfast, once before you go to bed, ideally after each meal, and flossing every day is a sure way to get great dental checkups. When brushing is not an option, rinsing your mouth with water after eating, or drinking something sugary will help minimize particles left on teeth that can harden into plaque and cause decay.

If you have any questions about how to properly care for your teeth, or would like to schedule a cleaning with our excellent hygiene team at Brewer Family Dental, please feel free to contact us today at (859) 277-7721.
